BHC Consulting has been actively engaged in a number of recent projects:
  1. Marvin Berkowitz, Principal of BHC is serving on the leadership team that is planning the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s (HFMA) New England regional conference to be held on May 24 and 25th 2011 in Connecticut. The conference will include a number of compelling presentations that address the critical issues of health care reform, physicians-hospital integration, Accountable Care Organizations, and electronic health records.
  2. BHC Consulting is serving as project manager for a value based health care pilot project at Children’s Hospital in Boston. This project addresses measuring the outcomes and cost of all physician-hospital services for a complex surgical population. The project’s goals are to develop a framework to evaluate care processes that add to or detract clinical value as well as to develop datasets that will facilitate the development of bundled clinical episode based payment for services.
  3. BHC is currently assisting an academic medical practice understand and implement new Medicare value based incentive payment programs including PQRI, electronic health record meaningful use, electronic prescribing and new payment incentives for primary care physicians. Successful implementation of these programs will result in significant amounts of Medicare incentive payments as well as positioning the practice to comply with new Medicare programs and a new payment environment that rewards value vs. service volume.
  4. BHC is currently advising a number of academic and community based physician practices regarding potential mergers and affiliations and their impact on practice revenues.
  5. Advised a multi-specialty surgical practice on making improvements in its incentive based compensation plan. Changes in the plan recommended by BHC resulted in improving the balance between the need for individual physician productivity vs. ensuring fairness in specialties that are becoming more specialized.
  6. Utilizing its knowledge of third party payment rates and payor mix by specialty, BHC is advising a major hospital regarding its affiliated physician practices’ commercial payor revenues compared to similar organizations within its market.
  7. BHC is measuring physician productivity in a large multi-specialty physician practice and using productivity benchmarks to administer an incentive based compensation plan for its primary care and medical specialty practices.
